About Us:
We are a welcoming group of athletes with a love for baseball and the only non-varsity baseball team on campus. Our status as a club team gives members the ability to play competitive baseball while still having ample time for other academic and extracurricular commitments. All of the team operations are run by the captains and we aim to establish a fun and cohesive environment prioritizing player development and team success.
Skill Level:
We do not enforce a strict rule as to prior experience, we are only interested in how well members can play baseball. With this in mind, it is preferred that members have played organized baseball, softball, cricket, or a similar hand-eye coordination sport before trying out to ensure player safety. The general level of competition for our games is similar to high school JV or varsity baseball (depending on our opponents), so members with limited experience are often only on a practice squad.
Games and Practices:
Our main competition season is in the fall. This is surprising to many members since baseball is typically a spring sport, but we have been a longtime member of the New England Club Baseball Association (NECBA) which operates from the first weekend of school in September through the first week of November. If you are a first-year interested in playing, please bring any baseball gear you have out with you when you move in!
When we are in season for the NECBA, we usually play one or two games per weekend. We have 12 regular season games and additional playoff games if we qualify. Half of our regular season games are home games that we host in Providence, East Providence or occasionally on the Brown Varsity field, and the other half are away games usually in Massachusetts or Connecticut. It is expected that members serious about playing on the starting squad reserve most weekends from September to the first weekend of November for potential games, and playing time in league games is allotted with a priority on winning. In the spring, we do not compete in a formal league, but instead, arrange scrimmages against other club teams from around New England. These games allow players not on the starting squad to get more playing time.
Finally, we practice 2-3 times a week, usually in the evening. One of our practices is indoors in the Olney Margolies Athletic Center (OMAC) batting cage while the other two are outdoors on Berylson Family Fields (BFF).
