● Summer 1968: Brown University, ranked #3 in the East, placed 3 team members on the East squad in the 45 man All America college rugby selections that appeared in this week in Scrumdown, the quarterly rugby magazine. This announcement appeared in the August 4, 1968 issue of the New York Times newspaper. Michael Diffily’67, John Adamiak’68, and William Mullin’68 were the Brown players named to the East squad. In addition, David Olson’67, former Brown Rugby captain who is now in his first year of law school at UCLA and was named to the West squad.

● Brown’s First Rugby Season
● Founders were four players with previous rugby experience: David Zucconi ‘55 (Brown Admissions officer), William Tingue ‘62, Jon Tower ‘62 and Iain
Tulloch ‘63. David Zucconi became the team organizer and maintained leadership as the club President for 43 years unl his death in 2003. Dave is considered the founder and father of Brown Men’s Rugby.
● Brown’s very first points were on a penalty kick (3 points) in Brown’s first match against MIT by freshman Iain Tulloch ’63. Tries in 1960 were 3 points each.
● Coach and star player of the team was Iain Coutts, an exchange teacher at nearby Moses Brown School, who had played rugby for both Oxford University and for his home Country of Scotland (first International to play for Brown).
