FAQ:

  • How do I join the team?

Anyone is welcome! We want to practice and work together with as many Brown community members as possible. There are no tryouts. You can come to any of our practices listed above. Registration with the club sports office is required before participating in any practices or meets at this link:

https://brownrec.com/sports/2018/8/14/club-sports-registrations-offerings.aspx

  • Do I need any prior swimming experience?

You don't need any prior competitive experience to join the club! We welcome swimmers with all levels of experience and offer four groups of varying intensity levels at each practice for you to choose what makes the most sense for you. Our membership includes new swimmers, high school swimmers, nationally competitive swimmers, and former collegiate swimmers, all of whom make important contributions to the club.

  • What should I bring with me?

All you need is a suit, a pair of goggles, and a cap (if you'd like). We are lucky to be able to provide kickboards, fins, paddles, and pull buoys at each practice.

  • What is the team dynamic like?

Our team is student-led, so we encourage a relaxed and fun swimming atmosphere. We know that it can be hard to balance extracurriculars and classes at times during the semester. You can attend as many practices and/or meets as you'd like. Our goal is to provide a space for every person to meet their respective swimming goals.

  • What is the meet schedule like?

We have about 3-4 meets per semester, including the annual Ivy League Club Swimming Championships every spring at Harvard University. Each swimmer can decide the events they want to do. We will provide transportation to and from away meets, and we hope to host another home meet again this spring. Your semester dues ($20) cover all these costs aside from a potential small cost for any overnight stays. There is no requirement to come to practice before attending a meet, and no pressure to attend a meet even if you regularly come to practice.
